This is the only album by the project The Coupe De Villes. It was released in 1985. The lineup includes old friends and colleagues from the film industry:
John Carpenter (director, played bass, rhythm guitar, keyboards, synthesizer, and sang);
Tommy Lee Wallace (lead guitar, vocals - the one who created the Michael Myers mask for "Halloween");
Nick Castle (vocals - he also wore this very mask in the film).
By the way, it was this cast that recorded the title theme to Carpenter's film "Big Trouble in Little China." The musicians enjoyed the process so much that they decided to record an entire album.
Why is it so rare
Key detail: The album has never been officially released. It was simply distributed to friends, relatives, and acquaintances of the band. According to one version, the circulation was about 150 copies — they were equally divided between the three participants.
Because of this, Waiting Out The Eighties has become a true "holy grail" for fans and collectors. Over time, stories emerged about finding new, sealed copies that had been sitting in warehouses for decades.
Music and Tracklist
The sound is typical of a mid-80s product, with a lot of synthesizers and pop-rock influences with new wave undertones. Some argue that the music does not claim to be a classic, but it is interesting as a curious artifact of the era. (Edited)
