Dylan claims (in Chronicles Volume 1) that Johnny's version of 'Positively 4th Street' is better than his own. High praise indeed! I have included Johnny's version on my 'top 100 Dylan covers' chart - Dylan wasn't wrong!
This is one of my all-time favorites. I first got it on vinyl in early '68, then cassette, now on CD. I reach for this masterpiece time and again. It is an ode to Southern California life in 1967. Best songs are Summer Rain and Goin' Back To Big Sur. Even the covers of Whiter Shade of Pale and Positively 4th Street have merit.
