Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. Cracking start. Then it's a bit of a conundrum. Even though it's in no way bad and you can't fault the songs, there's something lacking which gives it a slightly dull outcome

This is a fun album to listen to full of groovy synths and catchy hooks, which makes me give it at least 50%. But while all the songs are enjoyable, at the end of the day there is nothing memorable here, which explains why I only play this one every five years or so. "Honest Mistake" is playlist-worthy, +5.
