Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 69.8/100, a mean average of 67.9/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 69.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.2.

When I first got this it didn't really jump out at me in any way. Found it quite average. Fast forward quite a few years & it seems to of grown on me and I enjoy it more with each listen. I now give it way more credit than I used to. Many good songs. Couple in the back half that are just filler but overall not bad at all. Fav tracks: 'Bad Sun' & 'The Ocean'

The Sun and The Moon is hampered somewhat by lack of creative direction; about half of the songs seem to be dance-rock while the rest are mainly alternative rock. It features almost nihilistic lyrics focusing on themes such depression (Fistful of Sand, Tragedy Bound) and failed relationships (The Ocean, Angelina), but with the exception of a couple songs this is not reflected in the tone. Overall, it left an impression of at least creativity and certainly made for an interesting listen, at times working with aplomb and at times falling flat.
