Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 70.7/100, a mean average of 69.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 16.5.

I was disappointed with this album after initially soaking it up with repeated constant listens from the years 1981-82. Back in 1982, I would have told you that "Freeze Frame" was the greatest album of all-time!!! While I still enjoy the guitar/harp stylings of J. and Magic Dick, in retrospect, and in comparison to the band's previous output, this album is really a watered-down attempt at commercialism. I actually dismiss "Centerfold", and change the radio away from the song when it comes on. Sad demise for a formerly awesome band. If you would like to hear when the J. Giels Band was at it's peak seek out their early 70s through 1979's "Sanctuary" albums.

this record makes me think of "circus-music". the songs are witty, happy and euphoric. i can listen to this easily but it doesn't stay really in my mind.

One of the most solid albums, start to finish, of the decade. Hits abound here, and I find it funny Freeze frame still gets played at many sporting events. Holds up pretty well, even after all these years.

This album an a huge favorite of mine. There ain't a stinker on the whole thing. From the shout of "Freeze Frame!" to begin the album to the equally loud shout of "Piss on the wall! to close the album, it seem that there's a non-stop parade of blues, R&B, and rock. "Do You Remember When," "River Blindness," and "Rage in the Cage" are in perfect company with their chart-topping title track and "Centerfold." However, I believe the absolute high-point of this band's career was in "Angel in Blue" which is on this album. There's just an awesome collection of music on this one and absolutely no filler!
