Perhaps the album where it was finally clear who was Tegan and who was Sara. The heart on it's sleeve indie-rock rush contrasting with the more tightly-coiled and layered introspective electro-coustic numbers makes for a somewhat schizophrenic pop album, but multiple listens realizes that it's the album's strength, not it's weakness.
Strong performance. Tegan and Sara are always good.
This album hits me to the core of my soul. Just awesome!
One of 2007's best surprises. A strange, beguiling experience where the Quinn sisters became a schrizophenic whole, moving from pretty direct songwriting to darker, challenging, less immediately conclusive tunes

They added a lot of new wave and volume to "so jealous" that wasn't there on "if it was you", but the hooks were slightly lost in the process. "The Con" represents the best of their last 2 albums, with all the quick-to-the-point hooks of "if it was you" and the attitude and energy of "so jealous" melded in one. No second is wasted to dawdle. Every minute is an energetic ode to the forlorn and sexually repressed (woman).
Their most consistant album.
