Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 2% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 79.1/100, a mean average of 78.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 79.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.4.

21st century Ween vibe - influences their feel of lack of originality
I think this album does get overrated quite a lot. There are a few good tracks on here and all the rest are really filler songs. Nothing really drew me in and the album just feels a little empty and like it lacks something. For me this is quite a basic album and I was expecting a lot more to be honest.
Nada datado, ainda hoje apontando para o futuro!!
I've grown to love MGMT since first listening to Little Dark Age late last year. I've come to appreciate this album as Ben and Andrew's jumping off point for subsequent records, but feel it has substantially less to offer than the aforementioned subsequent records. Oracular Spectacular is a decent album uplifted by three absolutely stellar singles. The rest of the tracks are much less rewarding, even after repeated listens, but I still enjoy this album a lot. I just enjoy it a lot less than Congratulations and LDA. It's certainly better than their self-titled release, if that's any solace.
A very good album, amazing sounds in some tracks.
First MGMT album I've listened through but I've listened to their main three singles a lot - however, I really dig the other songs. I never listen to synthpop so this album might be pretty basic for the genre (I wouldn't know) but really liked it for what it was.
Favourite tracks: Weekend War, Electric Feel
Side A is fantastic, especially when you compare it to the Side B... How did that happen?
Three solid gold hits (Time to Pretend, Kids, Electric Feel) and the rest not really up to half the standard. Especially toward the end of the album. Thankfully they went on to make better and more consistent albums.
