Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 1% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 83.1/100, a mean average of 82.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 83.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

I'm not saying they're all great songs, but I like how this album feels.

I respect what he did here, but it is very far from my taste, I found it rather dull. Overall, 60/100.

Upon first ever listen, I thought it was good. Both Skinny Love and Re: Stacks shine.

The one time I saw Bon Iver live was at Kettlehouse Amphitheater in Bonner, Montana, a lovely outdoor venue on the banks of the Blackfoot River, surrounded by mountains and deep forests. Justin Vernon and company didn't play many songs from this mostly acoustic, indie folk album, preferring to stick with their repertoire of electronic fragments from their more recent albums, which went well with the laser-like light show that accompanied their performance. Near the end of the show they did play "Skinny Love," one of Vernon's greatest songwriting achievements, but the missing piece I would love to have heard in that particular setting was "re: Stacks," which is, for me, their very best song: "There's a black crow sitting across from me / His wiry legs are crossed / He's dangling my keys / he even fakes a toss / Whatever could it be / That has brought me to this loss?" That's some poetry, right there. One day I'd love to hear Justin Vernon sing those words live.

There are some albums that feel like they belong to a specific time of year or a specific place in our memories. This album fits that for me. It reminds me of standing out on my balcony at 3 AM in the cool fall air. Just a really beautiful album.

Bon Iver is undoubtedly the best folk band of the last decades. "For Emma, Forever Ago" is their masterpiece. This album exudes a soft, greyish, snowy and melancholy atmosphere. This folk is minimal but also intelligent, Justin Vernon (singer-songwriter) is an accomplished musician who really has a writing talent. This album is extraordinary, beautiful and addictive!
