Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.0/100, a mean average of 76.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.1.

I'm not convinced Kacey Musgraves' irreverent-country schtick is going to have a long shelf life for me. I'm not sure yet how much she really has to say, or whether or not her message has much depth or sophistication. But I had to rank Same Trailer, Different Park if only for the song "Follow Your Arrow," a rare country song that makes the case for inclusivity when it comes to sexual orientation, and whose larger message is to pursue one's passions, whatever they may be and wherever they may lead, which is something I really needed to hear in 2013. The song also has a pro-pot smoking message, which I find a little boring--and which takes a lot less moral courage to push through a country pop song.

The kid has lyrical chops for sure. It's just hard not to say: for country. As in, this is pretty good for country. It's a genre full of cornpone lyrics, formula-driven music and iconography, etc. But this girl is quite good, period.

Country over the years has produced a lot iffy material. Bro Country is just a joke. This is one of the bright spots during that time. Country needs to follow her lead.

This is the kind of country I dig. It's not the current pop country that's barely twangy and soulless. This is pop country with heart and sincerity, all while retaining some fun. There's earnestness in the songwriting and complimentary musicianship. It's not showboaty, gimmicky or over-glossed. It's not overly cute, awfully self-aware or devoid of universal meaning (like taylor swift). This is the most i've liked a pop country album since Miranda Lambert (although i didn't like her album enough to keep it around). This is the most i've liked a country album (not alt-country) since another kasey -- kasey chambers "barricades and brickwalls" back in 2001. It's taylor swift if she was more mature and less of a hollow twit. I think i'll just stick to country singers named kacey/kasey from now on.

I have no idea who this is but the cover reminds me of bill hicks coca cola sketch.

This is probably the best pop-country album I've heard since Gillian Welch released 'Time' over a decade ago. She really has some witty lyrics, which I really haven't heard in country since the 70's.
