Being termed as Melodic Death Metal was what drew me to this. First of their albums I've heard and owned. In a similar vein as Opeth but with hints of early Maiden but with guttural vocals. Overall not earth moving but good enough to make me want to explore their other albums.
En plena explosión de lo que más tarde se conocería como Sonido Gotemburgo, apareció un grupo de Melodic Death Metal con ganas de comerse a todo el que se pusiera por delante. Hablamos, por supuesto, de los polémicos In Flames, que elevaron el listón hacia cotas prácticamente inalcanzables para el resto de los mortales. La crudeza propia del Death Metal se da cita con melodías de guitarra que nos recuerdan a cualquier grupo puntero de Heavy Metal tradicional. Anders Fridén, que debutaba para este disco con In Flames, luce en un estado de forma espectacular. Los suecos cimentaron su éxito sobre 'The Jester Race', uno de los mejores discos de Metal de la historia y cuya escucha recomiendo a todo buen amante de la música. Alcanzaron su pico de genialidad demasiado pronto y ni ellos mismos pudieron igualar esta obra maestra.

Definitely the best In Flames album. It is their most brutal and heavy. The songwriting is very good. Moonshield is one of my all-time favorite metal songs, the acoustic in that is so good.
Heavy music speeding away in the distance that I should really have reminded myself about. I want to listen to more from this group. They played fantastic music.
