Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.0/100, a mean average of 73.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.1/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.1.

As usual with DJ Koze, it's hits and misses. Marilyn Whirlwind is great, the collabs are often interesting and there are some enjoyable tracks. But most of it still feels half-baked. Sometimes it sounds like (bad) folktronica, sometimes like B-sides deep house tracks and sometimes like a weird attempt at UK garage vibes.
A nice album to listen. That's it.
This album has its moments, and I have a feeling that this might be an album that requires a lot of listens to really get, but overall, the album was fairly boring. I mean, some of the songs were just straight up uninteresting entirely. Long, drawn-out electronic pieces that just stagnated and went nowhere. There were a few of those. But then there were a few pretty cool songs on it too. You’ve got the first song that features electronic musician Caribou, there’s the remixed “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough" featured in “Ich Schreib’ Der Ein Buch 2013" and the really cool effects featured throughout “Marilyn Whirlwind" (perhaps the best song on the album). Generally speaking though, the album is mostly a miss for me, outside of a few pretty good songs.
