I love the atmosphere she creates on this, very dark yet calm, and a weird nostalgic feeling coming from somewhere. There is not really much more to say about this album, just perfect hooks, danceable beats, and even some real good lyrics here and there: "Everybody shake! Until your heart breaks" damn girl... too real.

Little Boots packs her sophomore album with interesting dancepop that has a slightly more euphoric yet darker feel to it. It's definitely an improvement over her debut along with the majority of mainstream pop albums; "Nocturnes" is cohesive with no clear weak links. This is clearly a record Hesketh wanted to make with added creative control, rather than one a studio had pushed onto her, and it marks a really good attempt.

It never quite decides whether or not it wants to be an eclectic indie-synthpop sound, or something more like a polished Madonna feel, but there's certainly some great stuff from all over the spectrum. Perhaps not riddled with a ton of interesting songwriting or thought-provoking ideas, but fun, and good on a song by song basis. "Motorway" is one of the best songs of 2013.
