I don’t know what it is, but the songs on this album just don’t feel that fleshed out. They seem more like extended pieces of music for Al to riff over. Don’t get me wrong, that isn’t inherently a bad thing, especially with a voice like Al’s and some of the chords/progressions they’re using behind him.
This album kind of just flows by and doesn’t leave a whole lot for me to grasp onto.

This is Al Green's best selling album not counting greatest hits..and "Love and Happiness" is probably in my top 5 favorite R/B tracks..at the time, 1972, "Love and Happiness" was so big on black radio, it was the song that sold the album much more than "I'm still in love with you" single..of course, it never hit white radio. It still is played with much regularity on black radio today, at least the station I listen to.
