This feels like a weaker version of their better albums, and I think it gets overrated because of the nostalgia people feel towards it. The music isn't as punchy or catchy on here and at times it can seem very slow and boring to me. The instrumentation is decent but nothing special that hasn't been done before. It is also feels very devoid of life at times in terms of performances such as on songs like Some where they go for this repetitive and uninventive tactic of lulling you into boredom and then just making loads of noise, so it seems better. This leads to a few songs on here being worse than filler and you don't usually get tracks like that on Built To Spill records. Despite this, there is a great run of tracks right at the start of the record which really saves it from being just an average listen. These few tracks are instant classic for the group and are so enjoyable. Overall, not their best album but it isn't bad either, I don't think I will be rushing back to listen to it again though. In many ways I'm reminded of the Flaming Lips' Transmissions From The Satellite Heart. If you like this album, I think you'd like that one too.
