An artist that for me, everything makes sense on paper: sounds like Dinosaur Jr & Modest Mouse, philosophical lyrics, complex & creative music, exceptional playing, etc... However, for some reason it doesn't all add up for me. Something is missing. Is it his voice? It is the lack of accessibility? I really don't know...

Along with Modest Mouse, this band became an indie rock favourite of mine, releasing a trilogy of classic records from mid to late 90s. It’s too bad that they couldn’t maintain their quality streak after the turn of the century, though.

Perfect from now on is perfect, a truly underrated album deserving any and all accolades thrown upon it. People often talk of the guitar work but what Built To Spill master above all else is to create perfect songs - everything aspect of song craft is honed to perfection, and nowhere is this more present than on their opus 'perfect from now on', it's probably more present than anywhere else in indie rock. So tragically underrated...recently saw them play to a crowd of 300, was one of my favourite music experiences
