Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.3/100, a mean average of 72.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 11.5.

Not a bad album, but I miss first singer's voice

Sophomore slump after the line-up change, I wanted another great album like their debut. I would take the self-entitled b-sides and various releases such as "Chew" over this any day.

A great album in its own right.

It's not as if most of the album isn't "poppy" though?

I definitely liked it a lot more on a second listen, but I think that had to do with my expectations (and then on the second listen - with my poor first impressions). I think Daniel's absence definitely hurts the band, both as songwriters and the vocals (not that there's anything wrong with Max, but Daniel gave them a sort of distinction). The horns are a nice touch on some tracks, but IMO totally unnecessary on others. Overall it's still quite a nice noisy pop release, though not really on the level of their debut. Nothing as fantastic as Rubber, or Operation, or Get Away here...

Pretty great album, but it does this weird thing where it suddenly gets a lot poppier at the end. On the first listen, it's an uncomfortable transition. Will need to list more to know how I really feel about it.
