Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 8% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.1/100, a mean average of 74.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.6.

Really good except for Sleeping around. Probably the worst song Sonic Youth ever did. I can't help but think Thurston Moore is telling on himself in this song, and helps explain in songform why Thurston and Kim are no more, and subsequently, Sonic Youth.
With that said, Reena and Incinerate is a great 1-2punch in the beginning and the highlight of the album

As far as Sonic Youth albums go, yes, Rather Ripped is one of their more “commercial”. Rather than being frantic, unstable, and frenzied like Bad Moon Rising, Rather Ripped goes for the more laid back, relaxed, and mellow approach. And it works very well for the New York noise rock giants. Incinerate is one of their biggest hits, obviously, if you even can or want to call it that. But the rest of the album has a lot to offer as well. Again, Sonic Youth come through with nothing less than fantastic.

For Sonic Youth, this is just a straight-up pop album. It's not bad either, there are a couple gems here and there, but some of these songs are suffer from being forgettable.

Best Tracks: Incinerate, What A Waste, Pink Steam

None of these tracks are really that bad, but Turquoise Boy is just boring and forgettable

the version of this that I have has a thirteenth track on it, helen lundeberg, which is the only track on this album i'm not a fan of. outside that track, this is a great album and is easily among the band's best.

A good listen to long time Sonic Youth fans. Dont know if it will mean much to other casual listeners. Incinerate is so good.

More accesible than other SY stuff. In my view, the best SY album since Dirty.
