Though Cope has been flying under most people's radar since his early 90's heyday, he often continues to amaze those of us who are still paying attention. And this 71-minute set doesn't disappoint.
The monumental "Armenian Genocide" is the clear standout. A late-career highpoint, this 16-minute epic just may be Cope's crowning achievement. Imagine a cross between the Doors' "The End" and Donovan's "Atlantis", but with more intensity and depth than either of them. (And yes, it's literally about the Armenian Genocide of 1915–1923 when the Ottoman government systematically exterminated 1.5 million Armenians.)
The rest of the tracks vary in quality, but even the weakest ones are interesting, all exuding Cope's uniquely eccentric musical vision.
