Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.2/100, a mean average of 70.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 70.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.2.

Absolutely beautiful album Totally! I don't quite understand the "influenced by Midwestern emo" claim in the marketing verbiage since it's basically a dreamgaze-ambient album, but to each his/her own, I guess. Her stuff is very similar to ...who are very similar to Arcade Fire, almost to the point…

So many magic moments, the brass intro to Running, the intricate counterpoint in Death Song, that solo in Fear that's just pure noise. This album crams in so many hooks it's almost like listening to a greatest hits collection. The songs have real depth too, there's a lot going on under the surface that makes it worth coming back to. Listen to the bass part on Running, or the buried lead guitar in Good One. My favorite thing about Go God Go though, is just the pure joy of it. It's the feelgoodest album ever made.
