Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 6% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.9/100, a mean average of 75.7/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 76.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.9.

Relentlessly catchy and fresh, I love the jazzy, soulful feel of this album. Although some songs seem to use some recycled hooks, I love coming back and listening to this album.
Favorite tracks: Chosen, You're Not Good Enough, On the Line
Perfect summer album. Takes you back to teen years where you're first finding love, or at least what you thought love was. A strange mixture of lightheartedness and rejection, this album has such a uniquely sweet and melancholy sound to it. One of my favorites, a must-listen to if you're into r&b and feel like reminiscing.
Yeah I think this is just a little too... 1982. Not that I didn't love the '82 sound, but this just feels way too much like an attempt at re-spicing leftovers rather than cooking a new, dynamic stew. Catchy and still interesting in points, though, but feels a bit too tame especially in comparison to the far more eclectic Freetown Sound.
One of the most interesting rnb albums of the 2010s. Dev Hynes (Test Icicles, Lightspeed Champion), has managed to create his own identity while keeping a warm 1980s-1990s vibe.
I've heard this album described as "The kind of music Prince would have made if he was an introvert."
Honestly I can't think of a better description.
This album draws heavily from 80's and early 90's R&B, hip-hop, and pop, along with some other surprises, in order to create a beautiful sonic backdrop to Deb Hynes' tales of heartbreak and rejection. It really is a fantastic album, especially if you like R&B. Fully recommended.
Album sympa . Mention à No Right Thing.
