Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 73.1/100, a mean average of 71.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 73.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.3.

Sharon Jones was probably born ten years too late, and a thousand miles too far south, to have been full appreciated for her talents as a funk and soul singer, as she would have fit in perfectly to the Motown scene of the late sixties and early seventies. Nevertheless, she carved out an important niche in the southern soul scene between 2001 and her too-early death from pancreatic cancer in 2016. Give the People What They Want is an aptly named collection of sassy, brass-powered soul tunes that pick up an important thread of soul music and carry it confidently, maybe even a little defiantly, into the twenty-first century.

I became an instant fan of Sharon Jones after catching a live show a few years ago. She is producing soul and funk that is straight out of the late 60s/early 70s. It does not hurt that she is backed by an impressive group of musicians; they also backed Amy Winehouse on her breakthrough album Back to Black. But where that album was a blend of old sounds with more modern sensibilities, this is old school through and through.
maybe that track number ten is a bonus. guess not. proper placing. rather boring finish to a very old fashioned, yet melody-strong string of hits.
