This is Guster's best. Everything that came before was niche; college band super sweetly tinged in melodic vocal harmonies and optimism. Plus a gimmick of drumming with hands.
On Ganging Up on The Sun, Guster grows up and sounds professional and completely comfortable in their sound. This is a cohesive set of songs with absolutely no duds.
The harmonies are still there but it all isn't so cute and cuddly anymore. Which is a welcome change, because damn it Guster, the world just isn't that cute and cuddly.
Lightning Rod sets the tone wonderfully.
Satellite , Captain, Ruby Falls, Valentine, One Man Wrecking Machine are stellar standouts
Everything else range from good to very good. Hang on is a fine closer.
If you are looking to try Guster out, this is their best album. But if you start here, it may alienate you from the rest of their catalogue which is all much cuter and drenched in sweeet and happy
Yo I don't get how this could be the #4 guster, its easily their best one
