Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.7/100, a mean average of 71.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.4.

When you're touring the clubs as a rock band and suddenly everything is screaming grunge grunge grunge! What choice do you have? You jump on the bandwagon. Too bad. Good band from the wrong city and the wrong time

Although Gtroda is right about the history of the band, this is one of the worst, most unlistenable bands from the grunge era/ scene, sort of like an early version of Creed. Great songwriting? I beg to differ.

These guys actually are from Seattle. They were there playing the clubs when the other bands made it big. Just because they didn't get a record deal until 2 years later doesn't mean they ripped of the sound. And if you really listen to their music it really isn't grunge anyway. This album has great songwriting and guitar playing. It deserves another chance without the pretense.

One of the many post grunge bands that really just tried to rip off the Seattle Sound. To their credit though they write pretty good songs.
