Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album has a Bayesian average rating of 72.4/100, a mean average of 72.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 72.5/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.3.

Very much a Paul Simon Graceland era feel to it. A really rather good album.
This band was so different from everything else happening in 1990. There may be some overlap in their sound with Edie Brickell, Paul Simon, and Rusted Root, but they really seem so original even to those comparisons. The band started as buskers and there is a real gypsy feel to their early work, especially this album. It is not my favorite PDP album, but it has some songs like U-Li-La-Lu and Spending the Day in the Shirt that You Wore that are among the band's most fun live. This was the album that introduced me to the band so it will always be special to me, even if I like Pomegranate and Volo Volo more. Not long after this album was released, the band toured England where they were turned onto the Manchester sound. It changed their future direction - on later efforts there are much more soul and dance and electronic elements. But this is the sound of the band before that shift happened and that band, the PDP of old, will forever be my first love. I bought this album from a CD club because I liked the name of the album and for no other reason! Never regretted it!
