Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album is rated in the top 3% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 77.0/100, a mean average of 76.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 77.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.5.

Manipulator, in my estimation, is the best thing Ty Segall has done, and that's an achievement for an artist who is both prolific and varied in what he does. Manipulator is loud and gritty, but also thoughtful and meticulously crafted in its way, an intriguing amalgum of glam-rock attention to melody and the berserker guitar solos that had, for me, represented Segall's signature style. "Who's Producing You?" is my favorite track here, as it brings together beautifully Segall's characteristically lacerating guitar fills, while at the same time championing rhythm and propulsion over shredding, not a surprising development when you consider that Segall also plays drums. Overall a multiplicitous album that celebrates the dynamic skills of one of garage rock's most soaring talents.

Still blown away by this album. This is his magnum opus. Every song has a sweet tangy taste and there are really no bad tracks here. The most solid Garage Glam album of the new era.

The reigning garage rock king does it again. Certainly his most polished effort, but that doesn't mean it has become urbane. Just as frenetic and down right dirty as ever. I could listen to his fat fuzz all day.
