Lateness of Dancers was my first exposure to Merge Records greats Hiss Golden Messenger, and it made an immediate impression despite being a subtle, understated affair. M.C. Taylor is one of the finest Americana singer-songwriters of his generation, and although his nasal tenor can be a bit of an acquired taste, I've come to appreciate it as well. The title track is the high point here, and this is an album I expect to see rising in my charts as I spend more time with it.
