Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 65.2/100, a mean average of 61.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 61.8/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.2.

I'm the biggest Santana fan you'll find, but it is hard to really consider this a Santana album. The original sound and quality has been so diluted and dumbed down that it could be any band trying to do rock with a mildly exotic twist. Trouble is, even though the band was named after Carlos Santana, the other original members were almost as important as him, especially Rolie and Shrieve. Once they left it was no longer Santana, the band, more just Carlos Santana albums with varying new session-type musicians. None of the new musicians were innovators, they were just decent musicians who could write fairly good, unambitious soft rock numbers. And Carlos has always had a penchant for ballady, lovey-dovey material, and as undisputed leader after Rolie and Shrieve had gone, there was no one to hold him back, least of all the record company who knew there is a good market for MOR easy listening rock, especially in the late 70s and 80s. This very disappointing effort is the result of all of that.
