Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 65.8/100, a mean average of 65.4/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 65.4/100. The standard deviation for this album is 20.2.

No.1 for 5 weeks & contains 3 of the Top 50 biggest selling singles of 1983 incl the biggest seller of the year "Karma Chameleon". The others being the haunting melody "Victims" & the pure energy of "Church of the poison mind". There's also the No.4 hit "It's a miracle". "Stormkeeper", "That's the way" & "Black money" also standouts but there are no fillers on this album, making this a true classic of 80's pop. The 2003 re-issue CD contains the majestic orchestral instrumental of Victims, "Romance revisited".

One of the very fist albums I owned being only 11 years old then and a popular album at the time, two of the tracks being on the first 'Now That's What I Call Music' Album 'Karma Chameleon' and 'Victims'

There are a few lyrical duds, but the music quite good throughout. Underrated on this site.

Its been 30 years, time to listen to the music and not the image. Boy George and Culture Club were ultimately a rather short lived phenomenon, but that 18 months or so that they ruled the airwaves was a strong one and this album represents them at the peak of their powers, before overexposure and drug addiction derailed this band into a Trivial Pursuit question. People forget this album was so big that only Michael Jackson was able to hold it off #1.
