Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a mean average rating of 71.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 71.6/100. The standard deviation for this album is 13.2.

By chance this was my first S&G album. I know that half of it is non-original, but I'm impressed by their cover versions as well as originals, especially the cover of Bob Gibson's and Hamilton Camp's "You Can Tell The World", probably the most rocking gospel recording I've ever heard. I also think the Dylan cover really rocks. The originals are very good, as good as any of the later originals.

It's not as good as any of their other albums, but it's nice to see the starting point of S&G. Also the title track is great.

Albeit very listenable, this is clearly not S&G at the peak of their songwriting powers.

Sounds of silence is the obvious highlight.
Bleecker heart and Sparrow are pretty interesting too. He was my brother is ok as well.
The rest is average folk with a couple of low points. Overall not bad but not outstanding either. Lots of cover songs too.
It's an album that sounds charming but at the same time monotonous and with a lot of "sunday church" feel to it.
The voices and harmonies and guitar picking are spot on of course as you would expect for S&G but the best was yet to come.

The first full Simon and Garfunkel album. Wednesday morning, is predominantly acoustic featuring the original version of, the sound of silence. It's clear that Paul Simon hasn't got a lot of quality material as yet, hence the cover versions, but it's obvious on the songs he has written that here is an original songwriter. Wednesday morning, is the only non essential S&G album, but it's still a half decent record.

Taken in context this is probably the weakest album of their catalogue. It's still good though and the best was yet to come.

Surprised how religious... especially Christian this was. Paul was born into a Jewish fam. Ok album, a bit disappointed only because I expected more from Paul and Art.

Not their best. Before Paul really developed his songwriting.

It would be wrong to say this is a bad record, for it has a couple of pretty strong tracks in The Sound of Silence and The Times They Are A-Changin', and the musicianship is by no means untalented. The problem is that it is very difficult to stay awake through the entirety of the album, as it is far too slow and way too mellow to be able to arouse any proper interest. The inclusion of the awful Benedictus so early on does nothing to help revive that interest either.
