I don´t understand why critics don´t use to talk about this album as one of the best of his career. It is his most ambitious, complex, conceptual, interesting and longest album.
I really think it's one of his 5 greatest masterpieces. (Edited)
Probably the hardest Bowie album to get into but it really is worth persevering with.It was my favorite Bowie album since Heroes until The Next Day came along.

One of my top 3 Bowie albums (along with Low and Blackstar)
It really is a bit too long (thankfully the vinyl version is shorter, which improves it). However, it's by far Bowie's best album from the 90s, and features some legitimately brilliant and weird songs - I'm Deranged and Hearts Filthy Lesson are some of the best of his career. The original Hallo Spaceboy is great too, much better than the Pet Shop Boys version.
Too bloated, could have made an excellent 40-55 minute album because there are some excellent ideas in here, but in its current 70 minute form it just drags too often.
