Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 9% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 75.0/100, a mean average of 74.8/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 12.1.

This is not a "HINT" at greatness to come. This IS greatness already! Some artists hit the ground running.
I listened to this album ages ago and was quite good. After many years it's still good.
This is very much a start out but you can sense an ambition for richness in songs like Girl Called Johnny. Savage Earth Heart seems to hint at Scott's later full blown pantheism.
The debut album by The Waterboys is actually a solo album by Mike Scott, the only permanent member of the band which has, over its history, comprised more than 30 members. Although the album features future members of the band, Scott plays most of the instruments, and several songs are solo recordings. "A Girl Called Johnny" was a near hit, but the album did not sell a lot. But The Waterboys were born.
This is a 2002 reissue, which contains the original 8 song album, 6 bonus tracks recorded at the same time (and chosen by Scott), and "Where Are You Now When I Need You?", which was left off of the original release. It's different stuff, and sounds not a lot like their famous Fishermans Blues album. The songs are very personal, and shows that there were a lot of good things to come.
