Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 65.1/100, a mean average of 62.3/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 62.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 21.5.

there are some classic DD on the Paper Gods album.......
you kill me in silence
pressure off
face for today
what are the chances
butterfly girl
the universe alone
..... all are great DD songs - brilliant

however the rest of the album for me falls in to the trap of trying to be too current

where as the previous album and the brilliant Mr Ronson looked to the past to create the wonderful and consistant "All you need is now"

Paper Gods suffers from trying too hard to "fit in"

thowing current "stars" like Kiesza & Jonas Bjerre on the record to make it sound current makes it sound very confused rather than current or diverse

songs like change the skyline and last night in the city do not sit well with the classic sounding DD songs that i mentioned above

i dont know what "dancephopia is all about ????

however the title tack is clever and combines old DD with new beats etc and it does work on this occassion.

so Paper Gods is not all bad... there are 6 really brilliant song and a few ok ones ,
BUT, with the inclusion of the poor out of place ones, it all sound very messy and confused rather than diverse and new .......which is what i think they were aiming for.
