A fantastic return to form for the mighty DD
This album was sold as a continuation of Rio, and it does actually sit nicely with their classic 80's albums
Mark Ronsons production is done with love and care. It keeps to the original bass led, sprawling synth, thrashing guitar formula whilst making it sound new and fresh. He somehow brings out all the best old ways/skills of DD without making it sound dated.
The songs are all fresh and vibrant and there is not a bad one among them.
The only criticism I have is that it was originally released online as an 8 track album . This was compact and complete like an LP used to be - in the style of Rio (8 tracks).
But then being part of the download/ CD generation when it was released in full it went to 14 tracks and on the special edition , a whopping 16 songs. None of these tracks were bad - in fact they were good. It just felt too long now, and it had lost its identity as an album. I wish they had been brave and released the extra tracks as a separate bonus CD or even another album. Instead they fell into the trap of thinking more is better. When in the world of the album this is simply not true- for me if it fits on the too sides of an LP that's just the right length.
Anyway.... moan over
This is a fantastic album and well worth your hard earned pennies or dimes
