Doo Wop style music, one of his more listenable albums. Opener is best track in my view. Nothing special though.
Incredibly skilled musicians making a seemingly simplistic collection of pop/doo-woop love songs. Of course, there is a lot of humor involved.
Sad to see this albums so low on Zappa's best albums. Great record.

This album seems to essentially just be a way for Zappa to indulge in his long standing love of doo-wop music. It's well written enough to be just as enjoyable as any other Mothers album from the 60s, but its songs are less spontaneous as a result of being structured more traditionally. Still, give it a spin or two.
Three or four songs from Freak Out are fixed in these versions, if you ask me, and it's refreshing after the first few albums to have one that isn't a collage but just songs. Also, I don't miss the improv sections of talk..."ponies and pigs" and all that. The production is very cool, there are interesting sounds nicely recorded throughout...some beautiful bass sounds, layers and layers of vocals, horns, sweet clean guitar tones, all sorts of treats. It's pretty great.

Omaggio semi serio di Zappa agli anni Cinquanta ed al Doo-Wop, genere che l'autore ha amato e che quindi viene riproposto con rispetto: nei titoli delle canzoni, nelle costruzioni armoniche, nell'umore generale.
Anything Zappa is worth a listen.
