Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)
This album is rated in the top 18% of all albums on BestEverAlbums.com. This album has a Bayesian average rating of 74.9/100, a mean average of 75.2/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.2/100. The standard deviation for this album is 15.2.

I bought Gone To Earth by David Sylvian on 18/10/2013 from Amazon on CD2 for £5.96 The version I have is on the record label Virgin catalogue number It entered the UK charts on 13/09/1986 and got to number 24 spending a total of 5 weeks on the chart.
To me, this is one of the greatest albums of the entire 1980s decade, regardless of music genre. It is a journey in sound/sonics with just enough of a story line to engage the listener. And the second portion is some of the finest ambient music, ever. Fantastic guest musicians, including Robert Fripp, Bill Nelson, Kenny Wheeler, and many more. David, I have read, is not as fond of this album as he is of the follow-up, Secrets of the Beehive. For me, this one is the sentimental favorite.
