It's not often you find a good bluegrass band from north of the Mason-Dixon line, but these Pennsylvania pickers, led by lefthanded acoustic guitar strummer Darren Schlappich, offer a solid combination of strong musicianship and entertaining, often funny lyrics. Their subject matter often derives from their identities as rural Pennsylvania Dutch, a world in which, to borrow an old expression, every game is an away game. "Native Trout" is a great example of how their aesthetic plays out--it's packed with silly, often juvenile sexual double entendre, but mostly it works as an affectionate celebration of rural America's passion for, and obsession with, fishing.
