4.5 out of 5.
Very few electronic dance music artists are able to make interesting albums from A to Z.
Which is why very few even try to do so compared to other genre.
This album is a cornerstone in EDM and raised the bar on the standard for house music and realease of a full LP.
Eric Prydz as perfected the minimalist style of house music. This album is filled with trance-inducing moments and absolutely geniusly progressing tracks where the sounds are so simple but feel very complex.
My only complaint is that i wish we could of seen even more of Eric Prydz's capabilities considering how wide his reach is.

Eric Prydz is a very versatile producer of electronic dance music, being able to produce pop tunes, progressive house, and deep techno. His first album, Opus, doesn't capitalize on this versatility, as most of its songs are influenced by this pop sensibility rather than displaying his many talents. While thios probably made the album more marketable, I think he missed an opportunity to show what he's capable of. That being said, the songs are the album are all pretty good, and explore that pop sensibility to different degrees and in different ways, with some tracks sounding very modern, and others sounding very much influenced by the 80s. The tracks which aren't pop tunes are a treat, with "Liam", "Floj", Klepht", "Trubble", and "Oddity" being standouts, in addition to the incredible title track, which is a masterclass in building up a track. While it may not have been the ideal debut for Prydz, it's definitely one of the better electronic dance music albums of this era.
