Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. My first experience with Mirah was C'mon Miracle, as recommended to me, if I remember correctly, by Pitchfork's best of 2004 list. I really enjoyed that one, and this one, her release immediately preceding this one, paled a bit in comparison. It definitely gets better as the record goes on. Still, there's a lack of focus here that made the last (well, next) one so great. I'm hoping this will change with her next one.
