Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 74.2/100, a mean average of 72.6/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 74.1/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 15.4.

One of the great AOR bands. The debut is a classic
Boston burst onto the rock scene in 1976 with a new sound and an awesome debut that remains an all time classic. Unfortunately, they couldn't maintain the momentum and had infrequent followups that were spotty at best.
My wife and my brother love this band, but it's hard for me to take them seriously. They are like Journey, Styx, and REO Speedwagon to me--I can enjoy them for a few minutes then I want it OFF.
Boston ranked 226 when they are pretty much objectively a top 100 band. They're better than pretty much every garage rock band. Amazingly well produced, brilliantly crafted songs, and a lead singer in Delp who can still give me goosebumps. THIS is talent.
There are those who love the guitars, those who hate this band for various reasons and then there's me, who thinks Brad Delp is one of the quintessential rock vocalists of all time. Good Lord, those long wails on More Than a Feeling and others.
Maybe if they didn't go 8 years between albums, there'd be more quality to pick from. As it stands, they seem like a one-album wonder to me.
Excellent song writing and great guitar work. The production is so bad that it is tough to listen to this CD. The vinyl may be better. Classic from the 70's.
Did you know there's going to be a sixth album this year? Too bad Brad Delp's dead.

A lot of hard work happens in the background to keep BEA running, and it's especially difficult to do this when we can't pay our hosting fees :(
