The first 3 albums are excellent and different from each other. After that it went downhill.

Purple is a consistently brilliant album throughout. Not one song suffers in its place on that whole album. Tiny Music is an album that will be greater appreciated as the years go by. They tried a different style on that album that didn't pay off with immediate adulation but it has enduring qualities that can be returned to time and again. Core doesn't draw me back like the other 2 mentioned but it holds its own against most other debut albums in the 90s.

I know some love to slam these guys as drug-addled, second-rate Soundgarden wannabes. That's a little unfair. They had biting lyrics, grooving rhythm and catchy melodies. At their peak, they sounded like the love child of Soundgarden and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Core and Purple are absolute classics, and Tiny Music is decent. After that, sadly, the drugs did take their toll and their output suffered.
They had so much potential, each of the first 3 records improved, IMO. Tiny music wasn't received well, however I feel it to be their best, most unique, psycedelic masterpiece in its entirity. Since then is a whole other story.
