Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 75.3/100, a mean average of 74.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 75.3/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 15.0.

The older albums are very good , new are only good
One of the bands that were majorly effected by the emergence of MTV, much to the detriment of their music. Still their early work puts ZZ Top amongst my favorites.
The epitome of Texas blues rock boogie delivered with a very solid attitude... then degenerated into MTV schlock.
A great band who didn't stick to their original sound and got away with it.
While I'm not any big fan of ZZ Top, I have a ton of respect for any band (3 piece or otherwise) who stays together with the same lineup for essentially their whole career. ZZ Top is a very solid and influential Texas blues band and they don't pretend to be anything else. If this was a US-based website, they would probably be rated a little higher, even though they aren't everybody's cup of tea.
best little ol' boogie band from Texas
Overall, good. Not great, but worth a listen on occasion.
(but La Grange is AMAZING)
I like the bar-boogie ZZ Top over the MTV superstars.
Once they got into the MTV era, their albums became over produced. If you buy any of the early CDs, make sure they are the original mix versions. They were
remixed with more echo when they first came out on CD, to try and make them sound like the newer stuff. The result sounds like they are being broadcast on an early 60's, boss jock AM radio station. AWFUL!
Got to agreed (mostly) with the previous comments. The early albums are far superior to the later ones but check out Rythmeen which is a return to the early stuff.
