Rating metrics: Help Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some albums can have several thousand ratings)

This album has a Bayesian average rating of 71.5/100, a mean average of 70.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.3/100. The standard deviation for this album is 14.3.

Still this is ZZ top, poppy.

Two hits and lots of filler. While this album has fallen by the wayside, it does signify the beginning of the transition from cool blues boogie to slick 80s MTV fare.

This must be their weakest record. With Leila as a real low point.

Pearl Necklace and Tube Snake Bookie are good, the rest not so much. I prefer the 70s version of ZZ Top.

After their classic 70s blues-rock but before their MTV run, El Loco is largely forgotten but a very solid album. Pearl Necklace and Tube Snake Boogie are still airplay staples to this day, and Leila was a chart hit and one of the prettiest tracks they've ever done. The weirdness is turned up to 11 in the second half of the album, and I love every minute of it.
