Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some artists can have several thousand ratings)
This artist has a Bayesian average rating of 72.5/100, a mean average of 69.1/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 71.5/100. The standard deviation for this artist is 18.3.

Absolutely spectacular voice. The cover songs she has choosen to record are consistently better than the original. Yes, even the Beatles' Blackbird. Andy Partridge from XTC called her version of Dear God the best he'd ever heard, including XTC's. Listen to her cover of Gordon Lightfoot's Song for a Winter Night and Joni Mitchell's River. And many of her own compositions are underrated (or unknown), especially from the albums Solace and Fumbling Towards Ecstacy, before she hit it big internationally with Surfacing - a prescient album title if there ever was one. The best Canadian artist of the 90s. If the members of this site weren't overwhelmingly male, she would be ranked much higher.
No one can do melancholy like Sarah McLachlan. She isn't limited to sad music by any means, but is strongest in that field, and potentially unmatched in that respect. Best album is Surfacing, and top songs of hers include Angel, Answer and Full of Grace.
Simply put, one of the most breathtaking voices in music. Her songwriting and melody are OK, but her voice is remarkable. Appreciate the voice, get Dylan or Cohen to write for her.
A master of yodeling. And her falsetto sounds breathless. But songs are always average despite only a few good ones.
