In the wake of the Tragically Hip's greatness through the early 90's someone needed to rise to the challenge. Was it Our Lady Peace? No, I would argue that it was certainly Matt Good... who rose higher in some ways. Say what you will about his persona, the guy is crazily sincere, follows through on his convictions, and that voice, wow. One of the greatest Canuck talents ever, to my mind and... also to my mind... that is saying a lot.

Matt Good was a folk singer in BC before someone told him his lyrics and melodies would sound better electric. He switched, and voila - his sound. You can still see the folk influence in his lyrics - topical and cutting without sounding whiny. Great guitar rock on his first few albums.
