Top Irish Albums (Including Northern Ireland)
by

Right, so this chart may take awhile to complete as I've some important exams coming up...Anyway, this chart will be my personal favourite Irish albums, 1 per artist to spread variety, I'm including Northern Ireland cause after all we're all on the one island and I do quite love numerous bands from the north, it may also be awhile before the order is correct.
Rate and comment if you please, despite the fact it's not finished I won't mind. I swear.
(I've just learned half the albums aren't on this site, will add them, along with comments in due course, I am way too tired now...)
Also, I'm trying to get albums that are accessible for anybody to hear so a lot of these are on Bandcamp, etc., will be adding links later but contact me if there is anything that catches your eye.

Great stuff. Hope you can extend this to a Top 100, though that will probably mean you have to make it 2 albums per artist. I hope to eventually get around to listening to the ones on your list that I'm not yet familiar with!

Interesting chart... I'm sure you'll get one or two people questioning the lack of U2, but then so what? Lovely to see SoPFC so high too - I remember bopping to Where's Me Jumper when it first came out!
Three recs for you - Children of Lir by Loudest Whisper, Swaddling Songs by Mellow Candle (both folk) and If I Die, I Die by The Virgin Prunes (odd post-punk).

Thanks, this list is a bit all over the place at the moment, I tend to get easily distracted and attempt some new project.
And yes, I am from Cork, you must be the first other user from Cork I've met on this site so welcome, there's no more than 5-10 Irish users regularly active here so it's always nice to meet more, especially from Cork.
As for Protobaby, I haven't got around to it yet, but I'll make it a priority to hear it soon, thanks for the rec!

Decent list. Have heard maybe one out of every three, although if I wasn't from Cork this might be a bit less (wagering you might be a Corkonian too)!
They Want Control are a cool band. Didn't know they had put out a full LP - gonna have to check it out.
Have you heard the Protobaby album?

Thanks for the comment, the order of this is actually a bit wayward at the moment, needs to be arranged but I'm overloading myself with custom charts so I'll get around to reordering/expanding this chart soon hopefully. As for The Pogues issue, they're an English-Irish band from my understanding, they formed in London, the majority of members are English, yet they have a sense of Irishness about them in their music and members of Irish origin such as MacGowan aid in adding to this Irishness.

Funny I almost prefer this chart in reverse. I love Ham Sandwich, Villagers and TDCC but then again my knowledge of Irish music is somewhat limited and biased towards newer stuff. Anyhow, a lot of stuff here for me to check out. And for what its worth I would include The Pogues, you'd hardly call them an English band would you?

A House are cool, one of their albums will probably will fall into this chart further down the line should I choose to expand beyond 50 albums, not sure which one I'd choose though, I Am The Greatest maybe...

@SingingPeasant96
I would say that instrumental post-rock seems to be their genre, I find it hard to think of other bands with a similar style as it's not a genre I'm overly familiar with, other Irish bands, such as Adebisi Shank, do fit under this genre in my opinion though. Here's a link to the opening track off ASIWYFA's self titled debut album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRD8z4cTjTM
