Best of the Psychedelic 60's
by

INTRO:
This chart is focused primarily on Psychedelic Rock, attempting to identify and list some of those great psychedelic gems that somehow fell through the cracks. Albums such as "It's A Long Way Down" by "The Fallen Angels", "Trip Thru Hell" by "C.A. Quintet", "The Music Emporium" from the same, "Music" by "Axe", "Trilogy For The Masses" by "Ford Theatre", "Yesterday's Folks" by "US69", "Churchill's" by "The Churchills" and many more. Other works critically hailed as psychedelic masterpieces are not omitted. Albums such as "Forever Changes", "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", "Surrealistic Pillow", "The Doors", "The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn " and so on.
Music was drastically changed with the arrival of psychedelia influencing music even today. It was heralded sometime around 1966 with the issuance of such landmark works as "The Psychedelic Sounds Of The 13th Floor Elevators" and "Revolver". As such, most of the selections in the chart are from that time on forward. The list starts with some early 60's non-psychedelic albums, which may be eventually replaced.
NOTES:
The chart is under construction as I am reshuffling the available material. As it is changed, some of the better known albums will be removed (well, not all...) and the number of albums per artist will be limited. It is sorted by preference. Selections 85 - End are not sorted.

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 4% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 89.2/100, a mean average of 92.5/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 92.5/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 7.2.

Great chart and source reference for future exploration.
Great chart which has given me plenty of bands to try out during isolation! The great thing about music is that it can span many genres so great to see Led Zeppelin 1 in here and although Pet Sounds is a cracking album as another psychedelic enthusiast has pointed out, I wouldn't expect that or anything else to be here because this is your chart! Thank you for all the new band exploration provided.
As a side note, if any person can define the lines between psychedelia, progressive, rock, hard rock, heavy metal, blues, jazz, classical et al, then they are a superior being to me...
Very helpful for exploring the genre. Thanks!
Four comments:
Is Led Zeppelin I really psychedelic? It seems like straight up hard blues-rock to me.
Give "The Odessey and the Oracle" another listen and then rank it like top 5 where it belongs :)
Pet sounds belongs here.
What is the rank percentage you have here?
Also thank you for this excellent chart! I haven't heard of most of these albums whihc is exactly what i was looking for.
Thanks for introducing me to Beauregard Ajax. Nice album. I am currently making a chart of Psychedelic albums, and there are some great ones here on your chart! Thanks.
Thanks for putting this together. Great reference! Should I find some recommended additions, I will pass them on.
Now I know I know nothing about psychedelic rock.
Thanks. I am glad you like 'Corridor of Faces' - you are now the 2nd person in BEA that lists it. :) Too bad that few people are familiar with it. Looking forward to seeing your 60's chart when it is done.
This looks like an excellent chart, thanks a lot. I went ahead and added 'Corridor of Faces' to my current '60s playlist.
