Is it cheating to include "Greatest Hits"? I didn't grow up with Queen; I discovered them when I was 13 through this album, and they've been my favorite band ever since. This was my introduction, and is a definite desert island disc for sure.

Some of my earliest musical memories are my parents playing "Graceland", especially on Summer vacation in Wildwood, New Jersey. I was only three or four at the time, but the music strongly evokes childhood, and Simon's knack for timeless melodies and conversationally eloquent lyrics make this a work of art I return to frequently.

Passionate, funky, and catchy, no recent band has more effectively evoked the Motown sound within a modern framework.

Punch Brothers blend the earthiness of folk, the punchiness of rock, and the musicality of classical to create what I consider to be the most underrated (and underknown) albums of the last ten years. Led by master mandolinist Chris Thile, Punch Brothers are creative in every way--from their "Kid A" cover to the adorably brilliant lyrics of "Patchwork Girlfriend" to the cinematically ominous "Hundred Dollars."

Still remains the greatest meditation on the modern world we live in, and a fine manifestation of studio wizardry and musical brilliance.

This album is the early-1960s in time capsule form. From heartachingly tender to infectiously playful, Sam could create any mood he so desired--and unlike many of his contemporaries, he wrote or co-wrote most of his own songs.

This is quintessential "I can't think decide what to listen to, let me put on an old, brilliant favorite that I know I won't get tired of" album. Not a single bad song in the bunch; nobody could do high drama like Bowie, and his creativity and passion are at its zenith here.

"Swirling". That's how I describe the guitars in "And Your Bird Can Sing," but it also describes the entire album very well: a swirling, psychedelic romp that shows the Beatles at their most melodic yet most experimental. McCartney in particular shines here, with the beautiful "Here There and Everywhere" (my favorite Beatles love song), the Motown-y "Got to Get You Into My Life," and the masterpiece that is "Eleanor Rigby." Not to be outdone though, Lennon's "Tomorrow Never Knows," "I'm Only Sleeping" and "And Your Bird Can Sing" show him at his most ethereal and most artistically brave.

Take the pop catchiness of the Beatles earlier work and marry it with a newfound musical sophistication and some (weed-inspired) creative introspection, and you have this brilliant album. Lennon in particular shines here, with "In My Life, "Girl," "Norwegian Wood," and "Nowhere Man" ranking among the best things the Beatles ever did.

Hauntingly beautiful and innocently charming, "Yoshimi" burns itself indelibly into your memory, where you'll cherish it forever. A true modern-day masterpiece.
