Rating metrics: Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)

This chart has a mean average rating of 77.0/100. The trimmed mean (excluding outliers) is 80.7/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 23.8.

"A chart that I hope reflects my tastes to the best of my ability." Man, I hoped that too. I can see an effort behind this, hand picking quotes for every record. Some personal picks like Takk and A Crow Looked at Me shows some thought, preference and character, but otherwise I cannot get that behind this chart that much. As many others have said, a vast majority here is so close to the overall chart it almost feels a bit dry. I still appreciate the chart and want to believe that the intro description clangs true, but at the moment I can't totally see it.

Look, there's nothing wrong with your albums, there's obviously a lot of great stuff here, but your systems for rating and ranking are just perverse.

As per your 10:100 score, you're expecting me to believe you love all these albums absolutely identically, to the point that you need to let an arbitrary online score system decide how to rank them? All 100 are identically good in your eyes? Even if this was the case, doesn't that leave you playing a bizarre game of cat-and-mouse with the overall chart in order to keep it up to date (something I can see by the misplacement of a few has already gone awry)? Not to mention the fact that there is nothing that interests you outside of the BEA top 300 or so, which would be fine if you genuinely thought that but given this chart's propensity to give over control to whatever the website says is good I don't get the impression that this is an honest reflection of your favourite albums.

I've taken a look at your ratings, and it looks to me like you've misunderstood what exactly a numerical system in music criticism is trying to represent (you have around 550 100/100 scores, vs only about 100 95/100s): reviewing an album isn't marking it alongside a crib-sheet where you mark it out of 100 according to how many right answers it gives; the score is relative to all the other music you've heard, since music criticism is a subjective exercise, not an objective one.

Sorry to go all theory on you but I think when you make a chart that leaves so many scratching their heads you might want to reassess how you're presenting your favourite albums. I will definitely amend my admittedly harsh score if you give us a representation of yourself through your music that is just a little more honest. I hope I am being honest in saying that.

Tough to deny any chart with so many classic, wonderful choices. Generic doesn't mean it's a bad chart as quite a number of these choices are on my own list. I'd just like to read why their on yours.
