“As time goes by it becomes more and more apparent how Suede were one, if not THE most important band of the nineties. So after a few dodgy lps, it’s with some relief to report how this new album finds a re-energised, more vital Suede.
Although the tunes are not as instant as before, a pop heart still strongly beats within even if this is a more mature, wiser, darker Suede than ever. There’s even a return to some of the art-rock madness of Dog Man Star - and if that isn’t cause for celebration, I don’t know what is.
Simply put this is the best Suede have sounded since their heyday and no one can hold a candle to them when they’re on this form” September 2018 [First added to this chart: 09/19/2018]

“Throughout this decade I’ve been moaning about how bad a state rock’n’roll is in. How it seems to be in irreversible decline, how it appears to be dying. No more, IDLES not only resurrect punk rock but breathe new life in to rock’n’roll. Anger of the phlegmatic kind is the tone, Snowflake Oi is the charge - less a flurry and more an avalanche.
If you hate how the 2010’s have turned out, you need this record, IDLES are an oasis of common-sense in a world slowly but surely going to pot.” August 2019 [First added to this chart: 10/17/2021]

”And so the Manics continue to make great albums. Lung-busting anthems (International Blue), songs that champion fighting in the face of adversity (Liverpool Revisited), and music that swells and surges with every emotion the lyrics evoke (Distant Colours), this is a welcome return to the big music of Motorcycle Emptiness and A Design For Life.
The heart to Futurology’s brain, Resistance Is Futile is more than anyone could expect from a band this late into their career. It is brilliant.." April 2018 [First added to this chart: 02/02/2018]

“Parquet Courts are the archetypal good-time band, optimistic, wide-eyed and with enough feel-good tunes to get anyone rockin’. That’s not to say that they can’t be affecting cos they can e.g. Freebird II, Death Will Bring Change, Tenderness etc etc, but they’re one band not to be forgotten once the party’s over.” June 2018

“Believe it or not but Blancmange’s latest is a synth-pop album the way they used to make ‘em. There are doff’s of the hat to Moroder, Depeche Mode, especially Depeche Mode, with the synths making more than a passing resemblance to the Violator era, there’s even a song called “In Your Room”!!!
But that’s only half the story with classily, seductive pop songs and thought-provoking lyrics vying for your attention. If you think Blancmange’s story ended in the mid-80’s, you couldn’t be more wrong.“ October 2018 [First added to this chart: 10/31/2018]

"This is the first Franz Ferdinand album without Nick McCarthy, it is also the first one to feature a palpable change since the debut. With a more synthesised, electronic sound pushed to fore, the songs are more looser, less hard-hitting/direct than before. So it's different but Franz Ferdinand's reputation for delivering incisive, pop songs sure to buzz around your cranium remains intact." February 2018

"MGMT are back and this time they're ready to kick ass, albeit in their own distinctive way. As usual, Side 1 is full of addictive, ear worm pop songs whilst Side 2 goes for another woozy, psychedelic journey - not without rewards. Definitely, they're best since their high watermark of 10 years ago." February 2018

“Well, kudos to Low for moving out of their comfort zone and making something as weird and well, lovely as this. There is distortion - loads of it, deep bass rumbles and an overwhelming sense of dislocation. It sounds like it shouldn’t work but it does. Reckon Low are just slow-core? Prepare to have that misconception challenged.” September 2018

“The release of this album couldn’t be more timely with the news being preoccupied with all things Brexit, deal or no deal etc etc.
Musically, Albarn still mines the same Brit-pop/Ska hybrid as before, although things sound a bit more queasy, tired and just a little more tattered.
Rather than the glorious dawn of a 1950’s-Festival-Of-Britain-type proportion as promised by the Brexiteers, this is a sodden soundtrack to the grim reality i.e. economic instability, broken promises, grey leaden skies and pounding, lashing rain.
Nice songs too.” November 2018 [First added to this chart: 10/23/2018]

"Matt Elliott's Third Eye Foundation exists on it's own, it's mournful, resigned dub-step is unlikely to become highly fashionable. This music is a bit deeper than that, more humanist to ever fit in.
The second return to his post-rock alias this decade, Wake The Dead lets in more light, more hope than The Dark, but is obviously from the same author. It paints a world that owes very little to escapism but is more interested in holding a mirror up to the filth, the sadness and the destruction. So it's heavy going, but it is Punk Fucking Rock."
