Ronnie James Dio may be the king of all rock & roll little guys...but don't sleep on Accept's former lead singer, Udo Dirkschneider. He's a tiny guy with a big metal voice. And Accept is one of those rarities from the 80's...a metal band without a single power ballad in sight! Glory BE!
Staying A Life is a live album recorded in Japan in 1985. It's heavy, it's fast, it's all rock & roll. The band strangely recorded all of their songs in English, even though it's evident that it's not their native language. But the power of this German band shines through here...even through an encore performance of 10 minutes worth of "Balls To The Wall". This may be the best way to experience one of the best and heaviest bands of the 80's. A truly heavy rock document. It does run a bit too long, but it's mostly worth it. 4. Mea Culpa
5. The Voice & The Snake

7. Back To The Rivers Of Belief
Enigma is the domain of German-Romanian musician and producer Michael Cretu. The project was born from a track he produced for his wife Sandra that included Gregorian chant. Cretu wanted to make music that combined multiple elements, including new age, electronic, world music, and synth pop…alongside chants. And so MCMXC a.D. was born. The title is the year of release in Roman numerals, and the album is a sprawling mix of genres and styles. Cretu plays almost everything (he’s credited as Curly MC), joined on a few tracks by a pair of German musicians. Sandra provides the non chant vocals. One of the few new age albums to become a hit in America, this debut release was a hit worldwide, and remains the most successful Enigma album to date.
The album was carried to number one status by its single, “Sadenesss (Part 1)”, which is a section of the track “Principles Of Lust”. Each Enigma release since this one has been a bit less successful than the one before it, but the albums still sell well in Germany. Cretu has become, over the years, the only member, making it a solo endeavor except in name. The musical approach, which seemed a good idea, starts to wear thin fairly quickly, leaving you with new age synths and tired dance beats in a mostly instrumental setting that doesn’t really make much sense. Still…kudos to Cretu for taking this kind of chance. If new age music is your thing, this might be for you. But it just doesn’t have the same shine it did back in 1990 when this was a novel idea. In the end, this comes off as average, and not much more. [First added to this chart: 05/29/2024]

Rating metrics:
Outliers can be removed when calculating a mean average to dampen the effects of ratings outside the normal distribution. This figure is provided as the trimmed mean. A high standard deviation can be legitimate, but can sometimes indicate 'gaming' is occurring. Consider a simplified example* of an item receiving ratings of 100, 50, & 0. The mean average rating would be 50. However, ratings of 55, 50 & 45 could also result in the same average. The second average might be more trusted because there is more consensus around a particular rating (a lower deviation).
(*In practice, some charts can have several thousand ratings)
This chart is rated in the top 10% of all charts on BestEverAlbums.com. This chart has a Bayesian average rating of 87.9/100, a mean average of 90.0/100, and a trimmed mean (excluding outliers) of 90.0/100. The standard deviation for this chart is 9.2.

great effort
Interesting chart! I can't rate as I've only heard maybe 3-5% of the albums on it - amazing how much music there is out there!
